Available in 13 colours, our stoles are designed to fall beautifully and securely across the shoulders and are finished in the highest quality satin material. We are able to offer a personalisation service to include your school or institutions’ crest with both printed and embroidery options.
Hat sizes
Please measure your head circumference before choosing a fitted hat, bonnet or cap
This can be done by measuring around your head approximately 2" (5cms) above your eyebrows.
If in between sizes, it is always advisable to choose a size higher and leave yourself a little bit of room to breathe!
Adult Gown Sizes
Please choose a gown based upon your overall standing height. For example, if you are 5'5 (167cms) tall and of average stature, please chose the gown that is for someone of 5'3-5'6 (161cm-170cm).
If you are of a broader stature, please bear in mind that the bottom hem of the gown will sit a little higher as there is more fabric required to cover the body. Therefore, you may wish to choose a height increment above your standing height.
This guidance mainly applies to female wearers, who wear a dress size 18 (bust size 44') or over.

The word “stole” is derived from the Latin-Greek word “stola,” meaning garment. An academic stole is a scarf-like garment worn over the shoulders usually denoting membership of a faculty.
The colour of the stole can either mean the general colour for Degree, Diploma or Certificate graduates, or it can mean the Faculty of the award, e.g. dark blue might mean that the graduate has been awarded a Diploma or Certificate in the Arts Faculty.

They can be printed or embroidered should you wish to add your school or institutions’ crest.
Personalising your stole: Please upload your logo in a JPG or PNG format when placing your order. Alternatively, please contact us at sales@ashington-gowns.com with any specific requirements.
For orders below 20 pieces, the logo will be provided in the form of a full-colour iron-on transfer that you can add to the stole using a standard domestic iron.
For larger orders of over 20 pieces, we can provide embroidery or print directly on to the stole itself, or embroidered applique badges with your crest emblazoned. Whether a crest or logo is embroidered, or printed on to the garment, is largely dictated by the artwork.
